As you know, our parish was slated to be closed not later than November 1, 2004. Since we refused to submit a closing date to the archdiocese, we were informed that the archdiocese would choose a date for us. We have been anxiously waiting for the dreaded letter that would convey this information, but to date, nothing has been received.
In preparation for this inevitable decree, the steering committee has discussed the feasibility of conducting a “live-in” vigil in our church. On the one hand, we believe the longer we control our buildings and keep them open, the better are our chances of initiating dialogue with the archdiocese in the hopes of presenting our case. On the other hand, a “live-in” vigil is an enormous undertaking and would require a long-term commitment from a large number of individuals. Our canon law attorney has not discouraged our planning a “live-in” vigil.
Before any final decisions about a
“live-in” can be made, we must know what each and every Friend of St. Peter
Parish thinks about the idea and what commitment each Friend would be willing
to make to this activity. If the
“live-in” begins, we must be prepared to finish it, no matter how long it might
take. Please think about the possible “live-in” and fill out the bottom part of
